The Arizona Cardinals are feeling much better after ending their three-game losing streak with a win in Dallas. They now look to keep the momentum in the first ever week 18 against the Seahawks. A win on Sunday allows a shot at an NFC West title and some tail win headed into the playoffs.
The team had some good news and bad news on Friday. The bad news is that Chase Edmonds, Marco Wilson, Rondale Moore, and Jordan Phillips are all out for Sunday’s game. In addition, Zach Allen and James conner are both questionable. This will only make it more difficult for the Cardinals against a Seahawks team that just put up 50 points and may be part of the last game for Russel Wilson and Pete Carrol.
The good news is that J.J. Watt has been designated to return from the injured reserve list. It is unlikely that Watt will play this weekend. However, there is a good chance that he will be available for the first playoff game next week. This should be a huge boost to the Cardinals. Not only will they get help on the Defensive line, they also get a team captain back on the field.
Despite there being several key absences this week for the Cardinals, they should still win. The Cardinals are currently 6-point favorites against the 6 win Seahawks. The Cardinals would love to get a win at home on the last game of the year to at least have a .500 home record this season.
There are other reasons to try and win this week. For starters, ending the year with 2 wins will go a long way in debunking the narrative of Kliff Kingsbury teams fading at the end. Especially after failing to win 2 playoff clinching games to end last season. Additionally, the Cardinals would do themselves a favor by bringing some momentum into the playoffs instead of slogging their way in. This is the team’s first appearance since 2015 and the first appearance for Kliff and Kyler. Although they will be prepared, they will realize quickly playoff football is a different beast. Any momentum they can carry into the playoffs will only help their cause. Lastly, a win and they possibly get the NFC title with a 49ers victory over the Rams.
This week against the Seahawks is not a must-win game by any means. Although, defeating the rival Seahawks, getting 12 wins on the year, and flying high into the playoffs seems much better than the alternative. No Cardinals or their fans want to see Russel Westbrook end his Seahawk career like it started, with a win in State Farm stadium.
It is time for the Cardinals and the red Sea to rise up on Sunday ride a tidal wave of victory into the playoffs.
